HOLLAND--An estimated 250 jobs are tied to new facilities for a Grand Rapids area-based long-distance trucking firm looking to relocate near Tulip City Airport.

Bouwens Construction Co. will build a $2.5 million to $3 million, 45,000-square-foot office and terminal complex on a 29-acre site at 280 E. 64th St., said John Bouwens, the project developer and company president.

"The (trucking) company has been rapidly expanding and is looking to build a new center in Holland, where it will have space to grow," he said. Bouwens declined to reveal the firm's name.

Bouwens Construction, through its subsidiary Polly Properties, on Tuesday night received site plan approval for the project from the Holland Planning Commission.

Construction is expected to start in spring, with completion by fall, Bouwens said.

Plans for the two-story structure have received West Michigan Airport Authority approval, a necessary step because of its airport proximity. The project also is awaiting Federal Aviation Administration approval.

About 30,000 square feet will be devoted to truck preparation and maintenance, and trailer assembly. The front portion of the building will be devoted to corporate offices.
