Callers are posing as alarm company employees in attempts to disable alarms before returning...

The Herald-Dispatch, a newspaper in Huntington, W.V., reported that a local woman was subjected to a phone scam from callers purporting to be from the ADT Alarm Company.

According to the Huntington police report, the callers are telling people that they need to check the alarm system. According to the news report, the woman inquired with ADT and was told that a similar scam has been attempted in Minnesota. The report said that the "alarm check" is actually an attempt to gain access, disable the system, before returning for a burglary -- sans alarm.
