Company sets wheels in motion to buy image sensor maker

Sony Electronics Inc., a U.S. subsidiary of Sony Corp., has closed a definitive agreement to acquire Pixim Inc., a Silicon Valley-based firm which has expertise in designing chipsets for security cameras. 

According to a release issued by Pixim, Sony will use Pixim’s image sensor technologies and engineering design expertise to further strengthen its global design and support functions.  Upon the conclusion of the acquisition, Pixim will play an important role for Sony’s image sensor semiconductor business as a subsidiary of Sony Electronics.

John Monti, vice president of Worldwide Sales and Marketing for Pixim said: “We are not at liberty to discuss details yet but are excited about this new endeavor.”
