Jeffrey Young elected as president-elect, Ben Scaglione to serve as vice president

The International Association of Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS), recently announced the selection of its newly elected board members for 2015. IAHSS disseminated ballots electronically in October to its membership, and the results were revealed in November.

President – Elect: Jeffrey Young, CHPA, CPP

Young, the executive director of Lower Mainland Health (British Columbia), Integrated Protection Services (IPS), is only the second Canadian IAHSS President in the history of the association. With over 25 years of experience, Young has a demonstrated success in senior roles in both the public and private sectors. He has served in executive roles with two of Canada’s largest security companies combined with over 15 years as part of the Canadian public healthcare sector. Young’s current role as executive director for IPS involves the lower mainland BC’s four health organizations - one of the largest scopes for a healthcare protection lead in the country.

“I am thrilled and privileged to be selected as president-elect of IAHSS, and I look forward to working with the organization’s staff, my fellow IAHSS board members, leadership committees and councils, regional leaders and, of course, the membership at large. I am committed to continuing the momentum we have in professionalizing our industry through our credentialing program as well as expanding our sphere of influence by creating partnerships with key internal and external stakeholders. It’s an exciting time to be in our business and I look forward to the challenge,” said Young.

Vice President – Secretary: Bernard Scaglione, CHPA, CPP, CHSP

Scaglione is the director of healthcare security services for G4S Secure Solutions, and has 30 years of experience in the healthcare security field. Scaglione served on the IAHSS Education Council from 2005 until 2011 and was past Chairman of the ASIS International Healthcare Council as well as the Past President of the New York City Metropolitan Healthcare Safety and Security Directors Association.

“I appreciate all the support of the IAHSS members who participated in the election process and selected me to participate on the Board for another two years,” said Scaglione.  “It is an honor and privilege to serve the organization, and I look to make a meaningful contribution during my tenure.”

Member - At – Large: Timothy A. Williams, CHPA

Williams of Fayetteville, Georgia serves as the director of public safety at Emory Healthcare. Emory Healthcare is the largest most comprehensive hospital system in Atlanta. For 15 years, Williams has led the public safety efforts at Emory. During his tenure, the department has been celebrated locally and nationally for best practices among security and public safety organizations.

“Professional security service is more than an officer in a uniform. It is a first and last opportunity to complement patient care. My focus as an IAHSS board member will be the value of partnering with healthcare staff and local communities,” said Williams.

“This is a very exciting time for IAHSS as we are going through a lot of changes that will lead to substantial membership growth and service development,” explained Marilyn Hollier, CHPA, CPP, director of hospitals and health centers security at the University of Michigan Division of Public Safety and Security. At the end of the year, Hollier will be stepping down as president and David LaRose, CHPA, CPP, director safety/security & emergency management at Lakeland Regional Health System, will be IAHSS president in the New Year.

LaRose adds, “Marilyn Hollier and I look forward to transitioning the president role and meeting with the current and future board of directors at a joint meeting in December. The 2015 Board will ‘hit the ground running’ in January and collaborate with our new executive director, Colleen Kucera, to strengthen our mission, enhance and add to our programs and services as well as raise awareness of our industry.”

Hollier also acknowledged the good work of Martin Green, CHPA, healthcare market specialist/business development at GardaWorld Security, who previously served on the IAHSS Board of Directors.
