Integration firm’s annual Gift of Security Awards benefitted a variety of charitable organizations

National security systems integrator Security 101 recently completed its fifth annual Gift of Security program, providing complete video surveillance and recording systems to deserving nonprofit organizations. The award also includes design, engineering and installation by the local Security 101 office.

Steve Crespo, Security 101’s chief executive officer, explains the Gift of Security was started by the company’s Salt Lake City office in 2012 and continues to grow each year. This year, eight Security 101 franchise offices from coast to coast participated in the program.

“(Our team) believes there is a tremendous need to support nonprofit organizations and help keep their clients, employees and volunteers safe,” Crespo says. “All too often, these organizations have limited funds to invest in their critical services. Since 2012, the Gift of Security has been giving back to these vital organizations to help deter crime and keep our communities safer.”

Joining Security 101 this year as an equipment sponsor was Axis Communications.

Organizations in each of the participating cities were nominated by area residents, then narrowed to three finalists by a panel of local community leaders. The winners were selected by a public online voting process that attracted thousands of votes in each community.

The winners of the 2017 Gift of Security (and local participating Security 101 office) included:

  • Charlotte, N.C.: Florence Crittenton Services of North Carolina, providing health, educational and social services for single adolescents and women, mothers and their babies in the foster care system.
  • Detroit: HOPE, a civil and human rights organization uniting a multicultural community in common efforts to overcome injustice and build racial understanding.
  • Hampton Roads, Va.: Habitat for Humanity of South Hampton Roads, with its mission to build affordable homes that strengthen area families and communities.
  • New Jersey: Lunch Break, which provides food, clothing and fellowship for community members in need.
  • Orlando, Fla.: Coalition for the Homeless of Central Florida, operating two campuses as the largest provider of services to Central Florida homeless men, women and children.
  • Richmond, Va.: Housing Families First, which provides homeless people the tools to achieve housing stability.
  • Salt Lake City: Citizens Against Physical and Sexual Abuse (CAPSA), which operates 16 shelters for victims of domestic violence.
  • San Diego: Boys and Girls Club of San Marcos, serving the needs of youth, ages 6 to 18, during the critical hours they are out of school and away from parental supervision.

“The 2017 Gift of Security was a tremendous success thanks to each of our participating franchise offices, our equipment sponsor, Axis, and the many community members who participated in selecting our award winners,” Crespo says.
