NSA: 80 percent of common cyber attacks preventable

Senate subcommittee hears testimony on securing the nation’s IT networks

About 80 percent of common cyber attacks could be prevented if network administrators instituted proper configuration policies and did good network monitoring, National Security Agency Information Assurance Director Richard Schaeffer told a Senate panel this week.

According to a report published by wired.com, Schaeffer and several other experts testified before the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Terrorism, Technology and Homeland Security concerning how the government and the private sector should go about securing their IT networks.
