Birmingham, Ala., Airport to See Security Upgrade

The Birmingham News reported on Wednesday that the Birmingham, Ala. airport, an international airport that is ranked among the U.S. top 75 busiest passenger airports, has landed a federal grant to improve security.

The grant is worth $2.12 million, and will reportedly be used to improve the airport access control and alarm systems, as well as to replace perimeter fencing.

Johnson Controls landed the contract for the access control and alarm system, a contract worth $1.47 million according to The Birmingham News. The access control project will affect doors and gateways leading into terminals and other highly secure areas.
