Floyd Co., Ga., to increase false alarm fines

According to the Rome News-Tribune newspaper in Rome, Ga., (Floyd County), officials in Floyd County are increasing false alarm fees. The increase in false alarm fines would apply to police, fire or emergency medical response.

In Floyd County, the first three false alarms in a year are free, but the fourth alarm is fined, and that fine will increase from $30 to $35. Similarly, the fine for the fifth false alarm moves from $50 to $65, the sixth from $75 to $100 and the seventh (and additional) from $100 to $125.

The move, officials said, is to recoup costs of responding to a high number of false alarms in the country.
