Hirsch Electronics, a manufacturer of access control solutions, announced Wednesday that it has entered into a distribution agreement with smart card provider SCM Microsystems.
The agreement allows Hirsch Electronics to make SCM’s series of Physical Access Control Terminals, which are currently being utilized at Department of Defense facilities across the globe, to the open market.
As the DoD and other government agencies continue to implement FIPS 201 compliant readers at their installations, Hirsch Manager of Strategic Technology Partnerships Kevin Reyes said in a prepared statement that this new partnership with SCM "ensures that the industry has a ready source of supply for multi-technology readers that enable a graceful migration path for the move from CAC I cards to FIPS 201-based credentials such as CAC II, PIV, and TWIC."
