Companies cooperate on standardizing IP video interfaces

Axis Communications, Bosch Security Systems and Sony Corporation announced Monday that they would be joining forces to help establish a forum targeted at developing a standard interface of network video products.

The firms said that this is the first cooperation in the security industry that has sought to establish a global interface standard for cameras and other such IP video products. The goal, according to Bosch, which announced the collaboration, is to make interoperability between different vendor's products much simpler. Currently, there is no standard that defines how network video products such as cameras, video encoders and video management systems should communicate with each other. The goal is to create IP video standards to covers such issues as video streaming, device discovery and intelligence metadata.

The cooperation between these three companies is intended to facilitate the integration of various brands of video equipment and to encourage interoperability of products by manufacturers, software developers and independent software vendors.
