Michael E. Smith named CEO of Mace

Smith to succeed Dennis Raefield who resigned earlier this month


Mace Security International, a manufacturer of electronic surveillance and personal protection solutions, has appointed its Michael E. Smith as its new chief executive officer, the company announced on Monday.

According to a statement, former CEO Dennis Raefield told the company that he would be resigning upon the completion of his employment contract on Aug. 18.

Smith, an independent consultant and a managing and founding partner of Chesterbrook Growth Partners, has served as director of Mace since June 18, 2010. He also spent 14 years at Checkpoint Systems, serving as president and CEO of the firm from 2001 through 2002.

"We thank Dennis Raefield for his years of service and dedication to Mace as our CEO and as a member of our Board of Directors. We wish Dennis the best in his future endeavors," Mace Chairman Richard A. Barone said in the statement. "We also welcome Michael Smith in his new role as chief executive officer, and we are excited about the experience Mike brings to Mace in the security industry including his expertise in providing strategic and operational advice to small and medium size companies."
