Georgia Tech selects RedCloud for integrated access control

ASIS International 2011, Orlando, Florida – September 19, 2011 – RedCloud, formerly known as PlaSec, today announced that the Georgia Institute of Technology Police Department (GTPD) has implemented RedCloud Virtual, the industry's first and only VMware Ready access control solution purpose-built for organizations that have migrated their IT infrastructure to a secure, private cloud environment.

RedCloud Virtual allows organizations to maintain enterprise-grade physical security while gaining the efficiencies of virtualization by eliminating the cost of maintaining stand-alone servers and avoiding the unnecessary risk of storing sensitive security information in a shared, public cloud hosting environment.

“We needed a physical access control system that met the needs of both our IT and security teams and could support current and future Georgia Tech ID access ‘BUZZ’ cards,” said Reed Galli, Physical Security Manager, (GTPD). “Our top priority was to identify a cost-effective, web-based, access control platform that operated in our virtual server environment, allowing our staff to easily manage facility access anytime – at any hour – from anywhere – on or off campus.”

GTPD worked with ICE Automation Group, a RedCloud authorized integrator, to evaluate access control solutions and select a new security management platform that supports open field hardware, extends IP-to-the-door and delivers 100-percent, browser-based accessibility for all system administrators, regardless of location.

With RedCloud Virtual, GTPD can quickly manage and enforce security policies from any web browser and deploy an efficient, cost-effective access control system that runs natively in its existing virtual server environment.

“More organizations are recognizing the need for convergence between physical and logical access control and are looking to leverage the efficiencies of virtualization,” said Terry Neely, RedCloud President and CEO. “Effective access control is about more than managing doors – it’s about providing maximum protection, flexibility and control to ensure the security of your facility, people and assets.”

RedCloud Virtual is built on an open architecture that leverages best-in-class IT standards to work seamlessly within an organization’s preferred IT infrastructure and deliver the highest level of scalability with the lowest cost of ownership. RedCloud Virtual is available through either a perpetual (CAPEX) or subscription (OPEX) licensing model.
