Jimmie Plummer named 'Security Guard of the Year' by MH&LA

GREENBELT, Md.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Greenbelt Marriott General Manager Robert M. Allen announced today that Jimmie Plummer, the hotel’s loss prevention supervisor, won the Maryland Hotel & Lodging Association’s (MH&LA) Security Officer of the Year award for 2008.

“Of the many responsibilities as general manager of the Greenbelt Marriott, nothing is more rewarding than helping our loyal associates celebrate their well-deserved success,” says Mr. Allen. “We could not be more proud that Jimmie was recognized for his long-time service and outstanding performance with this prestigious award. He has embraced and demonstrated to us all the Marriott tradition of going the extra mile for our guests.”

Mr. Plummer was nominated for his dedication to the job and knowledge of a wide range of security issues both inside and outside the hotel. The award criteria call for a nominee to have worked in the lodging industry for a minimum of three years and in the security department of a property. But Greenbelt Marriott Director of Security Rodney Taylor explains that Mr. Plummer’s experience and expertise goes far beyond that.

“I nominated Jimmie because he not only knows everything there is to know about security in our hotel, he also knows our guests and how to exceed their expectations each and every time,” says Mr. Taylor. “He’s dedicated to the job, here when needed, highly organized and an excellent communicator. Mr. Jimmie is the key to making security work at this hotel.”

Mr. Plummer has been at the Greenbelt Marriott for 16 years. He has also worked in employee relations for the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and prior to USDA, he was enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, retiring after 24 years as a Master Sergeant.

“I was so surprised when I heard my name called at the awards ceremony,” explains Mr. Plummer. “It was very gratifying. I know I’ve done my job when our associates can work in harmony and peace, and our guests are satisfied.”

“Jimmie Plummer was recognized for his outstanding performance and contributions to the safety and security of each guest and hotel employee,” said Mr. Allen. “Jimmie has embraced Marriott’s ‘Spirit to Serve’ and typifies our outstanding associates. Jimmie’s award is the continuation of the long Marriott tradition, set by our founder, J.W. Marriott, who established the credo: ‘Take care of your associates and they will take care of the guests, who will in turn, continue to travel and stay with Marriott.’ As a winner of the MH&LA award, Jimmie will be considered for the nationwide American Hotel & Lodging Association award presented in June.”

The Greenbelt Marriott received the Marriott 2007 Hotel of the Year award for all of North America’s full-service Marriott hotels. The hotel is conveniently located off I-95 and I-495 and is nearby Washington, DC, Baltimore, MD, and within a two mile radius of the Metro subway system. The hotel boasts 14 meeting rooms and 10,000 square feet of event space. The hotel’s 284 guest rooms were recently renovated in August of 2008, offering the latest in-room technology.
