Arecont Vision implements PSIA spec into camera lines

ANAHEIM, Calif., Sept. 21, 2009—The Physical Security Interoperability Alliance (www.psialliance.org), a global consortium of physical security providers focused on promoting interoperability of IP-enabled devices in the industry, is pleased to announce that Arecont Vision has implemented the 1.0 API Media Device specification into its MegaVideo® H.264 and MegaDome™ camera lines. Arecont Vision is the security industry’s first camera manufacturer to provide PSIA compliance for H.264 cameras. The implementation enables Arecont Vision’s cameras to be automatically recognized as PSIA-compliant cameras and stream video according to the open standard specification. Interoperable standards like PSIA’s enable IP-based security devices like Arecont’s to communicate with today’s video management solutions without the need for a special driver or SDK.
“Arecont Vision is pleased to be one of the first to support PSIA’s objective aimed at achieving industry-wide interoperability standards,” said Raul Calderon, Vice President, Strategic Relations at Arecont Vision. “We believe standard compliance and the widespread acceptance of H.264 compression will further accelerate the implementation of megapixel cameras for mainstream applications.”

Arecont Vision, who is on the board of directors of PSIA, has been working closely with VMS provider members of PSIA to implement the specification this year in order to provide a working solution. “We continue to be pleased by the enthusiasm coming from the manufacturing community,” said David Bunzel, Executive Director of PSIA. “As more camera developers incorporate the PSIA specification into their devices, we will see more movement from providers of video management platforms and then we can help bring truly interoperable solutions to market.”
Arecont Vision is the third camera manufacturer and PSIA member to implement the specification this year. The 1.0 API Media Device specification enables interoperability between disparate products, expanding opportunities for companies that provide solutions to the physical security marketplace. The specification is available free of charge and can be viewed at www.psialliance.org. About PSIA The Physical Security Interoperability Alliance is a global consortium of nearly 50 physical security manufacturers and integrators that are focused on promoting interoperability of IP-enabled security devices across every segment of the security industry.
