STERLING, Va. , April 7 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- SkyBitz, the leading remote asset tracking and information management service provider, today announced the release of a case study by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), documenting how SkyBitz successfully launched DARPA-funded technology into private, government and international markets.

The agency's case study emphasizes the security and efficiency that SkyBitz's real-time solution delivers to commercial, transport, military and public safety customers, including sensitive shipments such as arms, ammunition and explosives traveling across North America .

SkyBitz used DARPA funding to develop its patented Global Locating System (GLS) and a very efficient satellite communications protocol, which provide a more secure platform than traditional GPS and satellite communications solutions. The DARPA case study highlights SkyBitz's ability to track non-powered assets anywhere, anytime, for years on internal batteries.

SkyBitz has achieved the Department of Defense's HERO certification, allowing it to monitor munitions in real time. SkyBitz also provides tracking and monitoring solutions for school buses, high value goods, food and agricultural products and hazardous materials.

"SkyBitz continues to advance technologies and forge partnerships that increase safety, security and cost savings for a range of industries around the world," said Homaira Akbari , President and CEO of SkyBitz. "This case study exemplifies how DARPA helps businesses excel as both technology innovators and business success stories."

After completing DARPA Phase II in 1997, SkyBitz secured more than $58 million from investors for product development and market expansion. The company has expanded into verticals beyond its core in trucking to include rail, government, oil & gas and utility worldwide.
