Toshiba debuts two-megapixel network dome camera

IP66-rated housing safeguards camera from both extreme weather conditions and vandalism

DALLAS, TX, October 11, 2010 (ASIS International) -- Toshiba Surveillance & IP Video, a business unit of Toshiba America Information Systems, Inc., today debuted a two-megapixel IP network dome camera featuring an IP66-rated housing that safeguards it from both extreme weather conditions and vandalism. The gasketed, all-steel housing, combined with a built-in heater/blower, permits the installation of the new IK-WR12A in demanding outdoor applications such as traffic monitoring, airports, railway stations and city-wide surveillance in temperatures ranging from -4° to 140° F, as well as indoors where it may be at risk from tampering or accidental damage.

But durability alone is only one link in the IK-WR12A chain, albeit an important one. Security professionals will also find the IK-WR12A capable of outputting impressive 1600 x 1200 color video and supporting dual streaming in MPEG4 and Motion JPEG standards at up to 30 frames-per-second. Its Vari-focal lens (F=1.2 to 2.1) minimizes aberrations and delivers superb image quality, while day/night "color cut" and IR illuminators allow the camera to be used in dimly lit environments or even in complete darkness.

"Until recently the use of IP66 rated, high-resolution megapixel dome cameras has been restricted to military, homeland security and other applications where image quality and durability are far more important than affordability," said Sergio Collazo, Director of National Sales and Marketing for Toshiba Surveillance & IP Video. "Yet with the introduction of the cost-efficient, full featured Toshiba IK-WR12A we're helping more users to realize this design's significant economic as well as technical advantages. For example, a single IK-WR12A can cover a wide area installation that formerly required two to four standard resolution cameras, saving considerable expense."

Power over Ethernet complaint, the new dome can be powered using the same Ethernet cable as the data, making installation quick and cost effective while giving more options for camera location.

The IK-WR12A ships fully assembled ready to install. It is backed by a three-year warranty.
