Software House announces iSTAR Edge

Anaheim, CA — September 21, 2009 —Software House, a Tyco International Company, today introduced iSTAR Edge, a full-featured two-reader IP access controller. Leveraging existing network infrastructure to lower installation costs, iSTAR Edge also increases system reliability by providing access control decision-making and intelligence at the door. iSTAR Edge offers customers a unique optional PoE plug-in module featuring the latest PoE Plus standard. It is the only PoE module in the industry that can be easily removed and replaced should PoE standards change. The module provides ample power for two doors and associated readers, locks, and exit devices over a standard CAT 5/6 network cable, further reducing installation costs.

iSTAR Edge communicates with the latest release of Software House’s C•CURE 9000 (version 1.92) security and event management system, and offers the advanced feature set customers expect from a C•CURE system – peer-to-peer communications, clustering, intrusion zones and keypad commands, extended card formats, and cluster-based anti-passback. Customers are able to connect one or two RM or Wiegand readers and associated inputs and outputs directly to the network without the additional expense of long wiring runs back to a central panel location. Additionally, the device can be powered by an external 12 or 24 VDC power supply or from the optional PoE Plus plug-in module

“Given the trend toward more cost-effective IP solutions, we designed a product to take advantage of a company’s network and IT infrastructure to drastically lower installation and start-up costs”, said Warren Brown, director of product management for Software House technologies. “With iSTAR Edge, customers can expect a full-featured IP door controller with a more simplified installation process, allowing for dramatic cost savings without sacrificing functionality.”

iSTAR Edge is particularly well suited to high-security environments, such as government installations. The enclosure is protected with a built-in tamper switch to protect against unauthorized access. In addition, data transfer between iSTAR Edge and C•CURE 9000 is AES-encrypted to protect against network intrusion.

iSTAR Edge is housed in a small, modular enclosure with a backlit LCD to provide controller diagnostics, quick troubleshooting, and controller start up information saving additional time, costs, and unnecessary system downtime.
