New site provides users with crime statistics from more than 9K campuses

As students and their parents anxiously anticipate college acceptance letters, Security On Campus, Inc. overhauled their website in an effort to respond proactively to changing demands of campus crime awareness and prevention. The new website, www.securityoncampus.org, provides campus crime statistics for more than 9,000 campuses, as well as information about the group's innovative programming.

"Everybody in our nation's campus communities has a vital role to play in helping to keep them as safe as possible," said Jonathan Kassa, SOC's Executive Director. "Our new website is designed to empower each person with information about how they can protect their campus and respond to crimes that do occur."

During its 22 years in operation, SOC has responded to numerous incidents of college campus victimization. With the launch of the website, SOC aims to intervene by providing students and their families with informed and independent information about campus crime. Visitors to the new website can search a constantly updated archive of links to news articles about campus crime and victim advocacy, from across the country. SOC's website is the only internet source for all of this information in one place.

Campus public safety professionals will also benefit from SOC's new website; they will learn about the latest crime reporting and victim's rights training, including SOC's own Clery Act Training seminars, available across the country. Additionally, they can learn about what steps other colleges and universities across the country are taking to improve campus safety and crime victims' rights.

Security On Campus, Inc. (SOC) was founded in 1987 by Jeanne Clery's parents Connie & Howard after she was raped and murdered in her on-campus residence hall at college, by a fellow student whom she didn't know. SOC worked to secure passage of the Jeanne Clery Act, originally known as the Campus Security Act, in 1990 and continues to be the nation's leading voice for the improvement of campus safety. SOC was recently named the "most influential security focused not-for-profit" by Security Magazine. SOC is headquartered in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania.
