Maria Malice, vice president of special projects at COPS Monitoring and president of the Arizona Alarm Association, is on a winning streak, scoring a triple play at the ESA Leadership Conference, garnering awards
for Newsletter of the Year, Chapter of the Year and Chapter President of the Year.
Held January 12-14 in Fort Worth, Texas, the awards dinner gave Malice three more reasons to celebrate. In 2009 she was voted Alarm Person of the Year by the Public Safety Committee of the Arizona Alarm Association (AzAA) for the second year in a row.
Newsletter of the Year
InSecurity, the newsletter of the Arizona Alarm Association, won Newsletter of the Year. The criteria for the award included effectiveness as a member communications service, well-written articles that convey helpful information and strong support of ESA activities, consistent distribution, and quality layout and design.
"Newsletters play an important role for chapters by providing a vital link between members and keeping everyone in the communication loop," said Malice. "This award does not only belong to me. InSecurity is a joint effort between many people."
Chapter of the Year
When handing out the Chapter of the Year award, emcee Ron Davis of GraybeardsRus, shared with the 200 attendees of how great an honor this award is for the chapter.
The chapter of the year award was bestowed on the Arizona Alarm Association because of its dedication to the betterment of, and unwavering loyalty to, the industry. Other criteria were effectiveness of meetings, engagement in industry issues at local, state and national levels, vision and results demonstrated by volunteer leadership and/or paid staff, effectiveness and quality of products and services provided to members, its communications, public relations, and government relations, its training and the networking opportunities it presents.
"We all worked very hard to win this award but more importantly, to improve and advance the association," added Malice.
Chapter President of the Year
According to Davis when announcing the award for Chapter President of the Year, "Hard work and the ability to lead people from different backgrounds typify the winner of the Chapter President of the Year. The president of the year takes the initiative to get things done, consistently supports the goals of ESA, their state association and the industry, and is involved within his or her own community.
"This year's winner was the driving force in doubling the chapter membership, hiring a lobbyist to work on state-wide licensing issues and making the chapter newsletter a leading newsletter among chapter newsletters. This winner has served in almost every capacity at the chapter level and has a reputation for getting things done.
"As a leader and a symbol of all that's good in the security industry, please congratulate Maria Malice, of the Arizona Alarm Association, for winning the 2010 President of the Year award."
"This award was a real surprise to me," said Malice. "I was stunned. I didn't even know I was nominated. This really means a lot to me."
"We are all very proud of Maria and all that she has accomplished," said Jim McMullen, president of COPS Monitoring. "She is an asset to COPS and we are happy to be able to share her with the industry."
