Areceont earns 'European Megapixel Camera Product Line Strategy of the Year Award'

LONDON, December 19 -- The 2008 Frost & Sullivan European Megapixel Camera Product Line Strategy of the Year Award is presented to Arecont Vision (Arecont) for its complete portfolio of products ranging from multi-megapixel network cameras to high-definition Internet protocol video surveillance systems and associated software.

Arecont was the first in 2003 to introduce high-speed image processing in the megapixel surveillance camera market. Currently, Arecont offers the video security industry's broadest portfolio of megapixel cameras ranging in image resolution from 1.3 to 8 megapixels, including several new offerings with advanced technical specifications, such as dual-sensor day/night and quad-sensor panoramic viewing capabilities and full-resolution H.264 compression technology.

"These products, address the increasing market demand for high-definition image capture to enable advanced video applications," notes Frost & Sullivan Research Analyst Archana Rao. "Such applications include automatic license plate capture and forensic analysis, and provide customers with the best cost-to-performance ratio."

By combining multi-megapixel image capture with high-speed processing, Arecont has increased the capabilities of real-time surveillance for governmental and commercial organisations worldwide and introduced a viable, cost-effective alternative to analogue-based systems. For the first time, it has become possible to introduce multi-megapixel video systems at analogue camera price levels.

"Furthermore, in comparison to high-quality analogue cameras, Arecont's 8 megapixel cameras provide resolution up to ten times and one camera possesses the same functionality as 25 analogue cameras," adds Rao. "Thus, Arecont's products reduce the total number of cameras, as well as the accompanying software licenses, enclosures, camera mounts, wiring and lenses needed for a system. The company's products have been built on a common architecture and share common characteristics in image capture, image processing, bandwidth and storage."

Considering the need for increased bandwidth and storage for megapixel images, Arecont is also the first megapixel camera provider to offer a full line of cameras compliant with the H.264 video compression. By introducing H.264 compression technology across its entire line, Arecont has provided a new, more cost-effective solution giving rise to megapixel video at VGA bandwidth and storage requirements. In addition, Arecont's implementation of H.264 compression results in a ten-fold average increase in storage and bandwidth efficiency in comparison to previous generations of JPEG megapixel cameras.

"The company's wide range of products cater to the needs of diverse consumer groups in various verticals and application markets, including banking, retail, education, government, manufacturing, transportation and entertainment," states Rao. "By working closely with system integrators, solution providers and application developers, Arecont is able to enhance, extend and secure its critical solutions, while offering customers high quality solutions at optimum prices."

The Frost & Sullivan Product Line Strategy of the Year Award is presented each year to the company that has demonstrated the most insight into the needs and product demands of its customers. The recipient company has optimised its product line by leveraging products with the various price, performance, and feature points required by one or more market segments.
