en-Gauge wins 2010 MITX technology innovation award

Fire extinguisher monitoring technology takes first in devices category

ROCKLAND and CAMBRIDGE, MA – June 3, 2010 - en-Gauge, Inc., maker of en-Gauge monitoring systems for fire extinguishers and building safety devices, today announced it was voted winner in the devices category at 7th Annual Massachusetts Innovation & Technology Exchange (MITX) Technology Awards, held last night at the Marriott Copley Place in Boston, MA. The MITX Technology Awards recognize emergent and innovative technologies developed in the New England area, as well as the individuals and organizations responsible for driving these advancements.

Brendan McSheffrey, CEO of en-Gauge said, "We’re thrilled to win an MITX award. en-Gauge is committed to improving life safety monitoring in commercial and government buildings. We’ve taken a low-tech device -- a fire extinguisher – and turned it into an advanced technology tool that helps reduce risk and save lives."

"The Finalists and Winners of the MITX Technology Awards are some of the most dynamic, creative thinking companies in the digital space, introducing solutions and advancements that embody what the Mass Tech Hub stands for – a hub of technology excellence, innovation and collaboration," said Kiki Mills, president of MITX. "MITX advocates for their recognition and growth, as they are a vital contributor to the region’s economy and clout in the technology industry."

The en-Gauge System is a wireless sensor monitoring platform enabling building owners with early warning of emergency equipment use while delivering 24/7 equipment supervision. Built around en-Gauge’s patented fire extinguisher monitoring technology, the system includes sensors, wireless sensor backbone components, supervisory software and can be integrated with real-time-location technology as well as integrated into all major security and building monitoring systems.

In addition to improving life safety and reducing risk, the other major benefits of the en-Gauge fire safety system include immediate notification of removal, reduction in extinguisher theft and vandalism, and the potential to reduce total cost of ownership by as much as 40% over the lifetime of an extinguisher -- an average of 12 years. Also, labor costs and time are reduced because someone does not have to manually inspect each and every extinguisher every 30 days since the system does it 24/7. In addition, the proprietary software tracks the age, in-service date, manufacturer and complete incident history including usage and inspections of each and every fire extinguisher therefore users have easily accessible reports to demonstrate compliance with code enforcement bodies.

John McSheffrey, President of en-Gauge said, "Our customers appreciate what the en-Gauge technology does by adding value to their life safety systems. It’s great to now have the acknowledgement from our peers for the technological value of the en-Gauge device."

Brendan McSheffrey added, "We also offer our congratulations to all of the 7th Annual MITX technology award winners and nominees. Massachusetts is loaded with great talent, entrepreneurial spirit and a fantastic network of businesses and individuals. We’re proud to do business here."
