ComNet launches new managed Ethernet switches

Company’s models introduce SFP fiber connection for increased design flexibility

Danbury, CT. February 11, 2009, Communication Networks of Danbury, Connecticut, doing business as ComNet, has introduced and officially released part two of its extensive Ethernet product line.

The CNFE10MS and CNGE3FE7MS products are the company’s first hardened Managed Ethernet Switches. A managed Ethernet Switch is a critical piece of the Ethernet Network when video is being transported. The CNFE10MS and CNGE3FE7MS protect the network from being flooded with data and losing critical data by avoiding data collisions.

Both the CNFE10MS and CNGE3FE7MS offer two very unique features. The first is IGMP (Internet Group Management Protocol) snooping. Without IGMP, multicast traffic (streaming video) is transmitted to all ports within the entire network. This unnecessary traffic floods and ultimately slows the performance of the network. IGMP allows the data to be directed to a specific network address.
The second major feature is Rapid Spanning Tree Protocol or RSTP. RSTP provides a redundant network path in the case of a failure on the network. In most cases networks that use ComNet managed Ethernet switches can, in the event of a failure, redirect the data paths allowing network restoration in less than a second.

According to Vic Milani, ComNet Vice President of Product Management, “As modern Security applications make the transition from traditional point-to-point to Ethernet network based systems, they are facing the same challenges faced by every system designer: distance, durability and cost control. ComNet’s CNFE10MS and CNGE3FE7MS switches overcome those issues with ease. ComNet managed Ethernet Switches are unique is that they use Small Form Factor Pluggable devices as optical connectors. SFPs allow for the use of different fiber, fiber connector types, and different distances can be accommodated in a single ComNet switch. By offering user selectable SFPs within the switch, the end user can save on purchasing additional switches with fixed optical distances.” In support of that built-in durability, ComNet backs all its products with a lifetime warranty.

“With the introduction of our Ethernet product series, we are just adding to what is going to be a very complete fiber optic and Ethernet product line,” said. Skip Haight, ComNet VP of Marketing “The product lines we’re introducing now are the result of years of fiber optic experience. But the major difference between ComNet and the other suppliers is the customer care experience we offer. ComNet is a complete full-service company and not just a product line. From the initial contact forward, our customers will be truly surprised about how good the customer experience is. “ Haight continued.

ComNet offers an extensive line of fiber optic video and data transmission equipment as well as a line of Ethernet Network equipment that is uniquely toughened to meet the needs of the Security and Intelligent Transportation System market.
