Seagate SV35 Series, Barracuda ES and EE25 Series Hard Drives are optimized for continuous use and provide the utmost in security, reliability and capacity

SCOTTS VALLEY, Calif. — ASIS, September 2007 — Seagate Technology announced that its SV35 Series hard drives, specifically designed for optimal performance in digital video surveillance systems, now have a top capacity of 1 terabyte (TB), providing 32 full days of high-resolution video streaming. In addition, Seagate is broadening its hard drive offerings targeted at video surveillance streaming applications to include the Seagate Barracuda ES and EE25 Series hard drives, now providing a complete range of technologically advanced products to meet the security needs of large and small organizations across a wide range of markets.

Surveillance digital video recording (S-DVR) systems are overwhelmingly replacing closed-circuit television (CCTV) and non-technical surveillance and security systems. Hard drive storage is a critical component in S-DVR systems, providing a proven, fast and highly efficient solution to monitor, protect and store video data. S-DVR market growth is driven by the needs of the homeland security, retail, casinos/hospitality, and financial and utility industries, among others. IMS Research forecasts that the worldwide market for S-DVR systems will eclipse $3 billion by 2010, while the market for IP surveillance Network Video Recorders (S-NVR) will grow to over $200 million. What's more, IMS Research forecasts the mobile video surveillance will reach almost $500 million by 2011.

Digital video security systems now enable sophisticated software capabilities to automatically preview and flag security events in seconds, where manually reviewed images would have taken days or even months to locate similar information. High resolution image capture is moving the quality of stored video from grainy and marginally useful to crisp and incredibly detailed images used to combat crime, save lives and improve business practices in a wide variety of industries.

The booming demand for surveillance capabilities among large and small organizations has spawned development of a myriad of new systems and technologies – and these offerings require specialized storage solutions. Seagate is a surveillance video and data storage industry leader and the first hard disc drive manufacturer to offer surveillance-optimized drives for a full range of systems and applications, including mobile, traditional indoor, and enterprise and networked systems. As the pioneer in this market, Seagate is continuously enhancing its offerings from pre-sales design consultation services, product testing and evaluation, to after-sales product warranty servicing.

Seagate's broad portfolio of surveillance-optimized hard drives include the Seagate SV35 Series, the Seagate Barracuda ES and the Seagate EE25 Series. All of these hard drives are engineered for continuous use and provide the utmost reliability, ruggedness and capacity.

"Our goal is to provide the security industry with a wide set of tools to help its mission in protecting lives and property worldwide," said Patrick King, senior vice president and general manager of Seagate's Consumer Electronics Business Unit. "The entire SV35 family of hard drives optimizes performance, saves power and improves reliability in digital video surveillance systems. The critical nature of these applications and systems dictates a hard drive made specifically for security, and Seagate is the only company to address the unique needs of surveillance video system manufacturers and integrators."

A Complete Range of Surveillance Hard Drive Options

Seagate SV35 Series hard drives enable greater capacity, reliability, performance and features in digital video surveillance systems and applications through combining Seagate's latest advancements in hard drive technology with features designed specifically for digital video surveillance recording. With about eight times the capacity of a 160GB hard drive, a single 1TB SV35 enables a multitude of video cameras to be deployed, significantly increasing the cost-effectiveness of the S-DVR system. In addition, the larger capacity enables longer archival periods and allows the S-DVR to take full advantage of the high-resolution, capacity-intensive video streams to deploy intelligent video applications.

The Barracuda ES hard drive has industry-leading capacity, reliability and enterprise features demanded by capacity-intensive 24x7 applications like enterprise video surveillance. The Barracuda ES hard drive provides ideal SATA storage for multi-drive enterprise network surveillance applications where storage system redundancy is often required.

In certain circumstances video surveillance storage happens in extreme environments such as freezing cold, blazing heat, high humidity, shock and vibration – all daunting conditions to ordinary hard drives. Seagate's EE25 Series hard drives, built to withstand the rigors of extreme environments and operate in mobile situations, deliver the perfect combination of storage capacity, data reliability and environmental ruggedness for surveillance applications in outdoor and mobile situations.

The new generation of Seagate SV35 Series hard drives are scheduled to begin shipping in December 2007. The EE25 Series and Barracuda ES Series hard drives are currently shipping in volume to customers worldwide.
