Retail data analytics firm adds to company's loss prevention offerings

ADT Security Services parent company today announced that it was wading even further into the river of loss prevention. The company, which is well known for its Sensormatic electronic article surveillance (EAS) systems and its full-line video and security systems, has acquired Retail Expert Inc., a retail data analytics firm.

Retail Expert, a Boston firm that's been in business for about one decade, provides business intelligence solutions for retail needs that spread well beyond loss prevention. According to a statement from Tyco Fire & Security, the company's analytics activities include not only LP, but also vendor management, refund management, pharmacy inventory and shortage, case management and inventory control.

The company's chief offering is the NaviStor software system, which has been adopted by over 30 top retailers.

The move reflects a clear focus at Tyco/ADT to be an integration and solutions partner for converged security challenges, not just a product vendor of traditional security products.

"Adding these layers of business intelligence application products and services from Retail Expert will allow us to offer a comprehensive retail management solution to further bridge the convergence between security and information systems technologies," said George Oliver, president of Tyco Safety Products.
