WSI helps independent businesses thrive with U.S. DOE contracts

PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla., June 6 -- Wackenhut Services Incorporated (WSI) has partnered with several small independent businesses throughout the country, forging a powerful alliance that helps secure the Department of Energy's strategic sites. WSI CEO James Long said, "We feel it is important to help build the communities we work in. Partnering with small business is one of the best ways we can show our community spirit and contribute to the local economy."

WSI released a list of some of the small business relationships they enjoy at different locations where they currently have contracts. Long released the list commenting that, "Small business is the backbone of America's economy and we appreciate the opportunity to work with some great entrepreneurs."

The highlighted partnerships span several sites where WSI has security contracts including:

WSI Nevada Test Site (Las Vegas, NV) -- WSI has partnered with Professional Project Services, Inc. (Pro2Serve), headquartered in Oak Ridge, TN, to provide security system engineering and electronic security technology support to the National Nuclear Security Administration's Nevada Site Office under the terms of the recently won site security contract. WSI and Pro2Serve have begun to develop a strategic partnership, both within the terms of existing contracts and in the pursuit of new opportunities.

WSI Oak Ridge Team (Oak Ridge, TN) -- The WSI team at Oak Ridge includes two local business teaming partners: Critique Inc., and PAI Corporation. Critique performs business services, personnel security, and performance testing. PAI performs environmental, safety, and health, and quality assurance, as well as logistical and administrative support services.

In addition to the teaming partners, WSI-ORT also has a small business subcontract with Netgain Corporation for occupational medical services and drug testing. Netgain is an independent, female-owned, HUB zone business. Netgain also supplies K-9 services through their subcontractor, Canine SOS, another small business.

Further, during the first five years on the current contract, WSI established Mentor-Protege Agreements with these small businesses. Under the new contract proposal, WSI will partner with another small business in addition to continuing their existing relationships.

WSI Savannah River Site (Aiken, SC) -- Since the inception of its current contract at the SRS in 1999, WSI has subcontracted with numerous local businesses for 73% of its equipment, supplies and certain outside services, totaling $22,627,000 (out of a total of $31,040,000 for such services). These local business concerns include disadvantaged businesses, women-owned businesses, HUB Zone businesses, veteran-owned businesses, and service- disabled veteran businesses.

WSI National Training Center (Albuquerque, NM) -- Under WSI's prime contract with the Department of Energy, WSI-NTC has awarded 42.06% of subcontracting dollars to small businesses. Such services include psychological evaluations, janitorial services, translation services and construction projects among others.

WSI Office of Secure Transportation (Oak Ridge, TN) -- WSI subcontracts with two small businesses for services valued at more than $1,000,000 per year.

WSI DOE Headquarters Contract (Washington, DC) -- WSI is a minority partner in this contract which was won with a small business partner having a controlling interest. This contract subcontracts with nine small businesses for a variety of supplies and services.

WSI also has many small business relationships for its work outside of the Department of Energy. At the Johnson Space Center, WSI is teamed with The Diamond Group to provide security for that NASA facility as well as the NASA White Sand Missile Range site. WSI works with Alutiiq, an Alaskan Native 8a Small Business, for security and access control at numerous Army installations and WSI employs several small businesses in its Regional Base Operations facility support contract with the Department of Navy in National Capital Region.

Long concluded by saying, "WSI is fortunate to have the opportunity to partner with some of America's best business leaders. If we can find ways to work with local companies it benefits our customer, our communities and our business."
