DALLAS, July 18 -- The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has named Dr. Cedric Alexander as federal security director (FSD) for Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport pending final approval by the Department of Homeland Security.
Alexander comes to TSA after serving as deputy commissioner of the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services. In this position, he was responsible for public safety, law enforcement and criminal justice advanced training.
Alexander's considerable experience as a law enforcement officer includes 3 and a half years in the Rochester, N.Y. Police Department, first as deputy chief, then as chief of police. He also was a law enforcement officer in the Florida for 15 years.
"Dr. Alexander's background as a law enforcement officer and a public servant have prepared him for the unique challenge of leading federal transportation security efforts in a major U.S. city," said Mo McGowan, TSA's assistant administrator for Security Operations. "Homeland security efforts truly require federal, state and local partnerships, and TSA is fortunate to have Dr. Alexander and his collaborative experience in this role."
Alexander holds a bachelor's degree in sociology and a master's degree in marriage and family therapy from St. Thomas University. In 1997, he earned his doctorate in psychology from Wright State University.
Alexander replaces the late Jimmy Wooten, who had previously been promoted to TSA senior field executive.
