WASHINGTON, Jan. 11 -- The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has named Gary R. McCurdy as the federal security director (FSD) for the Colorado Springs Municipal and Pueblo Memorial airports. McCurdy comes to Colorado after serving as FSD for all 10 commercial airports in Wyoming.
"Gary is an outstanding leader who has done an exemplary job for us over the past four years in Wyoming," said Michael Restovich, TSA's assistant administrator, Office of Security Operations. "His extensive operational and management experience in security and law enforcement make him ideally suited for the role of FSD, and we are pleased that he will continue to be a valued asset to the agency in Colorado."
Before joining TSA in 2002, McCurdy spent 32 years in the United States Air Force. His last assignment was in the Pentagon, where he was serving on September 11, 2001. Prior to that, he was chief of security police and commander at several high visibility locations throughout the world including the U.S. Air Force Academy. Additionally, he was a senior helicopter pilot who accumulated 2,600 hours, primarily in combat rescue helicopters.
He holds a Master of Science degree in Criminal Justice from Michigan State University and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Science from the University of Northern Colorado.
McCurdy begins his new position this week.
