Fixed dome camera ideal in demanding and efficient indoor video surveillance

LAS VEGAS – April 2, 2008 – Axis Communications, the global leader in the network video market, today announced here at the International Security Conference & Exposition West (ISC West) the AXIS P3301 Network Camera, a new generation of network camera offering outstanding image processing performance with multiple H.264 streams and superior image quality.

The AXIS P3301 Network Camera, with its compact design, constitutes the perfect solution for indoor video surveillance systems with demanding and efficient requirements. The new fixed dome offering is part of Axis' new generation network video products (see Camera Station 3.0 Video Management Software announcement and Video Encoder announcement) that take full advantage of the in-house developed ARTPEC-3 chip. The new product generation includes H.264 video compression standard, which allows improved image quality, simplified deployment and management of large systems, and improved cost-efficiency.

Axis offers the industry's first native implementation of H.264 that takes full advantage of this standard. By using H.264 in all new generation network cameras, video encoders and video management systems Axis saves up to 50% of storage and network bandwidth compared to MPEG-4 Part 2 and up to 80% compared to Motion JPEG. This allows more cost-effective video-surveillance systems and simplified deployment and management of large-scale video surveillance systems.

“H.264, the latest breakthrough in compression technology, enables excellent image quality at significantly reduced bandwidth, fulfilling the market's need for storage and bandwidth efficiency,” said Fredrik Nilsson, general manager, Axis Communications Inc. “This together with discreet appearance, easy installation, and intelligent video capabilities make the AXIS P3301 Network Camera the best in the market."

The AXIS P3301 Network Camera is specifically adapted for unobtrusive video surveillance in exposed indoor environments, such as retail, banking, government buildings, schools, universities and airports. It offers superior image quality with progressive scan and wide dynamic range, providing crisp and clear images of both illuminated and low-light areas. Multiple H.264 streams, as well as Motion JPEG streams, can be provided simultaneously either in full frame rate or individually optimized for different quality needs and bandwidth constraints.

The standard AXIS P3301 comes with a tamper-resistant plastic cover, while the AXIS P3301-V variant features a rugged, vandal-resistant casing with a metal base specifically adapted for environments subject to the risk of vandalism. Power over Ethernet (IEEE 802.3af) supplies power to the camera via the network, eliminating the need for power cables and reducing installation costs.

The AXIS P3301 Network Camera includes video intelligence such as enhanced video motion detection, audio detection and detection of camera tampering attempts like blocking or spray-painting. It offers the market's most advanced suite of security and network management capabilities, including HTTPS encryption with preserved performance, IEEE 802.1X authentication, IPv4/IPv6 and Quality of Service.

The AXIS P3301 Network Camera offers advanced security and network management features, such as HTTPS encryption with preserved performance, Ipv6 and Quality of Service. It is supported by the industry's largest base of video management software through the Axis Application Development Partner program as well as by AXIS Camera Station.

The AXIS P3301 and AXIS P3301-V cameras will be available through Axis' distribution channels in Q3 2008 for the suggested retail prices of $799 and $849 respectively. Interested parties attending ISC West can obtain more information about this and other Axis products at booth #13601.
