HID's Kathleen Carroll Certified as Information Privacy Professional

Certification demonstrates company's commitment to addressing privacy

Irvine, CA, May 30, 2007 –HID Global, the trusted leader in secure identity, today announced that Kathleen Carroll has been designated a Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP) by the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP). The certification demonstrates HID's commitment to taking a leading role in addressing privacy and related legislative issues.

In her role as HID Global's director, Government Relations, Ms. Carroll has contributed to the development and support of public policies that safeguard individual privacy while fostering the responsible use of identification technology. With the certification, she has demonstrated practical knowledge of definitions, concepts and applications of U.S. and international privacy laws and information management practices and the privacy implications of emerging technologies.

"Kathleen's certification as an information privacy professional underscores our commitment."

Ms. Carroll, who has also recently been elected to The Smart Card Alliance Identity Council steering committee, uses her background in developing communications strategy and materials to help HID solidify its position as the recognized leader in addressing smart card technology-related privacy concerns.

"We want to promote the responsible use of our technology and deliver privacy-sensitive solutions if personal information resides on the identification document."

The IAPP, the industry's largest and most successful professional association, confers the CIPP designation on individuals who have passed a rigorous and comprehensive examination covering management techniques, regulatory familiarity, privacy terms, and privacy protection case studies. The CIPP designation confirms that its holder has achieved understanding of key legal, technical and operational concepts and applications in the handling of consumer information. This certification distinguishes Ms. Carroll among the upper tier of privacy industry professionals, assuring a high standard of knowledge and achievement within the profession.

The CIPP program from the IAPP was developed in coordination with the Ponemon Institute, a top privacy research firm, as well as corporate privacy leaders from HP, Microsoft, Nationwide Insurance Company, Procter & Gamble, General Electric, Walt Disney Company, eBay, Intuit, Privacy and Information Management Services P.C. and Corporate Privacy Group.

With nearly 20 years experience in public relations and marketing communications, Carroll has served in a variety of marketing roles, most recently with Towers Perrin. A magna cum laude graduate of Temple University, she holds a bachelor of arts in Journalism. Carroll is currently pursuing a Master's Degree in political science at Villanova University.
