May 8, 2006

CHELMSFORD, Mass. – Axis Communications (www.axis.com), the global leader in the network video market, announced today the AXIS 212 Pan/Tilt/Zoom (PTZ) Network Camera, for indoor security and surveillance. The camera incorporates a digital PTZ device that provides instant, one-click pan/tilt/zoom functionality and automatic patrolling without wear and tear on moving parts. The AXIS 212 PTZ’s compact and discreet design makes it ideal for monitoring areas less than 500 square feet, such as shops and reception areas.

The AXIS 212 PTZ incorporates a high quality, three megapixel sensor and wide-angle lens that allow users to instantly zoom in on objects within 500 square feet. It provides simultaneous Motion JPEG and MPEG-4 compression in order to optimize image quality and bandwidth utilization. The AXIS 212 PTZ also features two-way audio, including a built-in microphone, and Power over Ethernet to run data and power over a single cable and reduce cabling installation costs.

“The AXIS 212 PTZ is our first pan/tilt/zoom product with no moving parts,” said Fredrik Nilsson, general manager of Axis Communications. “With this offering, we are filling a need for reliable PTZ network cameras at an affordable price point.”

The AXIS 212 PTZ features pre- and post-alarm image buffering, video motion detection, and scheduled and triggered event functionality with alarm notification. The network camera comes with a comprehensive set of security features such as multi-level password protection, IP address filtering and HTTPS encryption.

The AXIS 212 PTZ will be available in July through Axis’ distribution channels. The manufacturer’s suggested retail price is $499.
