General Services Administration list identifies vendors and products certified for use in new federal government-wide credentialing program

ASIS 2006, San Diego, Booth # 4225, Sept. 25, 2006 — Lenel Systems International announced today its inclusion on the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) list of companies approved to supply products to government agencies seeking to achieve compliance with Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) 201. Lenel is one of the first integrated solutions providers to be included on the GSA FIPS 201 Evaluation Program Approved Product List (APL), and earned the listing through an application and product testing process. Lenel, a global leader in development of integrated security systems for government and commercial markets, is part of UTC Fire & Security, a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE:UTX).

FIPS 201 was developed by the National Institute of Standards and Technology to satisfy the dictates of HSPD-12. HSPD-12 is a Homeland Security presidential directive issued by President George W. Bush that establishes a mandatory, government-wide identification standard for federal government employees and contractors, to provide access to both physical and logical resources.

U.S. government agencies are currently deploying FIPS 201-compliant identification credential issuance programs. HSPD-12 requires most federal agencies to begin credentialing all civilian federal workers and contractors by Oct. 27 of this year, and to complete the process by Oct. 27, 2008. Only equipment certified by GSA and included on the APL can be used to build a FIPS 201-compliant solution, which enables them to issue and use the new credentials, called PIV (Personal Identification Verification) cards.

“Lenel's inclusion on the APL is another milestone in the company's rich history of developing solutions that meet and exceed government and industry standards,” said Kevin Wine, vice president of marketing for Lenel. “IdentityDefender, Lenel's latest pioneering achievement, enables government users to procure a single-source software solution that delivers unparalleled efficiencies in the management of HSPD-12-related credential production. Lenel OnGuard, widely considered to be the de facto standard in enterprise-level, physical-electronic access control systems, has also been approved for use with the PIV card and listed on the GSA APL.”
