Edge Integration Systems Introduces New IP-Based Access Control System

April 25, 2006
The Edge ACS designed to offer unparalleled security, convenience and flexibility

OAKLAND, CA – April 5, 2006 – Edge Integration Systems, manufacturer of Internet Protocol (IP)-based electronic access control systems is pleased to announce the release of its first product, the Edge ACS, an access control system that finally delivers on the promise of IT and physical security convergence. The Edge Access Control System is a highly scalable, end-to-end IP-based access control solution.

With Edge’s single-door IP Controller, the Edge ACS provides a complete access control solution for small and medium sized businesses, yet scales to meet the needs of companies with multiple, geographically dispersed facilities. Each plug-and-play IP Controller can support 5,000 to 200,000 users. New doors within the same facility or at remote locations can be seamlessly added to an organization’s access control system by simply connecting each new IP Controller to a network with Internet access.

The customer saves money since Edge IP Controllers communicate using TCP/IP on their existing Ethernet or WiFi network infrastructure. Users conveniently monitor and manage their access control system from any web browser. With Edge’s web-based management platform, EdgeWeb, the customer avoids the expense and hassle of maintaining on-site hardware and software.

While the Edge ACS supports popular Wiegand readers, Edge also offers the proprietary FingerNet biometric fingerprint reader created specifically for the Edge ACS. The FingerNet reader allows for deployment of a networked biometric access control system at the price of a standard card reader system. With standard card readers, the Edge ACS can be deployed at a substantially reduced cost compared to current systems.

Through Edge’s Partner Program, dealers and systems integrators receive technical training and certification as authorized Edge resellers. The Edge ACS provides dealers and systems integrators lower hardware and installation costs and better margins by making use of modern data communications and information technology. With the Edge ACS, integrators are also able to offer value-added managed access services through EdgeWeb.

“We’re very excited to be working with many of the country’s top systems integrators as we start to deliver the Edge ACS,” noted Glenn Forrester, Edge founder and CEO, adding, “We have been working closely with a wide range of security systems integrators to design a product that meets the needs of the market and provides integrators and dealers with a platform for building successful businesses.”

The product will be showcased at the International Security Conference in Las Vegas, Nevada, April 5-7 (booth #24143).

Edge was founded in May, 2005 to manufacture IP-based access control systems. The company is privately funded.

The company’s founders and engineering team have diverse backgrounds in security, software development, consumer products, information systems, and industrial design.
