Reston, VA -- September 18, 2006- ObjectVideo, the leader in intelligent video, announced today that the Port of Texas City has deployed ObjectVideo VEW on more than 40 surveillance cameras around its 22,000 foot perimeter to monitor and detect intrusions by people, vehicles and watercraft.
The port is bordered by the U.S. Texas City Harbor on its east side, and several chemical plants and oil refineries surround its northern and western sides. Additionally, an industrial ship canal borders the port on its southern side, separating the port facility itself from a chemical storage facility. The Texas City Terminal Railway Company provides an important land link to the port, handling over more than 25,000 car loads per year. The Port of Texas City's success as a privately owned port has been aided by its shareholders, Union Pacific and the Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroads, whose connections allow for expeditious interchange of their traffic.
ObjectVideo's intelligent video has enhanced this vital infrastructure's perimeter by providing technology that allows security personnel to monitor larger areas more efficiently and accurately.

ObjectVideo features include enabling security personnel to set up rules in areas of interest, as in this case around the fence line and rail access gates. It runs all objects in a camera's view against these event-specific, pre-defined rules. When an object violates a rule, the software alerts operations personnel in real time by phone, pager, email or an alert console. This allows those personnel to effectively monitor dozens of cameras simultaneously.
