CHELMSFORD, Mass. - (April 5, 2006) - Axis Communications, the global leader in the network video market, announced today the AXIS 242S IV Video Server, a one-channel video server designed to execute advanced intelligent video applications such as people counting, human detection, traffic analysis and license plate recognition.
The AXIS 242S IV is equipped with a digital signal processor which enables image and audio processing algorithms to be run inside the video server, rather than in a central location. This allows for more scalability when executing embedded intelligent video applications because only the necessary data is transmitted for action.
"Intelligent video is a natural extension of Axis' network video technology," said Fredrik Nilsson, general manger for Axis Communications. "We have seen early interest in intelligent video for applications such as people counting and traffic monitoring, and Axis will continue to develop targeted and cost-effective products that meet these needs."
The AXIS 242S IV will be available separately or bundled with the AXIS IVM120 People Counter, a software module designed for indoor object counting. The video server is an open platform that Axis Application Development Partners can use to create their own intelligent video or audio applications.
The AXIS 242S IV provides high-quality video at up to 30 frames a second, with a de-interlace filter that improves image quality in 4CIF resolution. The video server also utilizes simultaneous Motion JPEG and MPEG-4 video compression to optimize both video quality and bandwidth consumption in resolutions up to 704x576. It includes built-in motion detection, event management, and a complete set of security features such as HTTPS encryption and IP address filtering.
The AXIS 242S IV and AXIS IVM120 will be available through Axis' distribution channels for the manufacturer's suggested retail price of $899 for the AXIS 242S IV and $99 for the AXIS IVM120.
