Honeywell Launches SmartPlus for Converged Access

Sept. 24, 2007
End-to-end solution integrates physical and logical access control

LOUISVILLE, Ky., Sept. 24, 2007 - Honeywell (NYSE: HON) today introduced SmartPlus, its new IT and security convergence platform designed to manage and authenticate user credentials within a single solution. Honeywell's SmartPlus, which is powered by Novell Identity Manager, is a modular solution designed to expand easily as the security needs of an organization grow. By converging physical security and IT applications, SmartPlus increases security, improves business processes and maximizes workflow efficiencies.

"Honeywell's SmartPlus solution allows our customers to expand their security policies by helping them manage additional facilities, personnel and resources that have not been conducive to access control or facility security in the past," said Vineet Nargolwala, director of marketing for access systems, Honeywell Systems Group.

The complete SmartPlus solution is composed of the following components:

-- SmartPlus Identity Manager, which employs a graphical editor and Web-based interface for real-time data management to bridge the gap between physical and logical security. In addition to integrating initial enrollment and card production with management of user identities, SmartPlus Identity Manager also provides the ability to automate day-to-day tasks through its workflow engine creating productivity and compliance benefits for an organization.

-- SmartPlus Badging & Enrollment is a Web-based badging and enrollment application that offers clients multiple biometric plug-ins, including enrollment, identity proofing and card management.

-- SmartPlus Connectors offer more than 300 real-time connectors to enable seamless communication with third-party applications such as SAP, PeopleSoft, Oracle, MS-SQL, and Active Directory.

-- The SmartPlus Integration Server provides a real-time XML interface between the SmartPlus Identity Manager and Pro-Watch to ensure data is continuously updated and synchronized across the organization.

The SmartPlus platform provides organizations with a complete infrastructure that leverages data and information from enterprise systems and automates tasks which have historically been performed manually across several platforms, such as assigning privileges or revoking credentials.

"We initially launched this platform specifically to support a government initiative," said Jim Ebzery, senior vice president of Identity and Security Management for Novell. "But we quickly realized that vertical markets such as the pharmaceutical and financial industries also needed a simplified solution for their physical and logical security requirements. The incorporation of the SmartPlus technology with the powerful Pro-Watch platform offers a unique solution to the security initiatives of these and other industries."

Honeywell will demonstrate SmartPlus at ASIS International 2007 at booth #2313. For more information, visit www.honeywellintegrated.com.
