WASHINGTON, March 28 /PRNewswire/ -- The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) today announced the use of five Reveal Explosives Detection Systems (EDS) for screening checked baggage at Austin Straubel International Airport (GRB) in Green Bay, Wis. The new equipment means better customer service, since the Reveal machines are faster in screening bags.
"This state-of-the-art technology will enhance our explosives detection capabilities on checked baggage," said TSA Green Bay Federal Security Director Timothy Decker. "The machines' reduced size and more efficient operating system offer significant benefits to the airport and its customers."
The recently deployed machines are located behind each airline ticket counter, and replace the previously existing explosives detection equipment used at Austin Straubel International.
"Brown County has been a leader in working with TSA to improve passenger safety and security, and now we're improving convenience as well, with the deployment of this new technology," said Brown County Airport Director Tom Miller. The new machines will also allow TSA employees to screen twice as many bags per hour than was possible with the older equipment.
The Firm Fixed Price contract with Reveal Imaging Technologies, Inc., of Bedford, Mass., is valued at $3.3 million through March 2006. Reveal will also be responsible for maintenance of the equipment.
The Reveal machines were certified in December 2004 by the Transportation Security Laboratory in Atlantic City, N.J. Reveal becomes the third company to have EDS equipment certified for screening checked baggage at the nation's airports.
