Non-magnetic extinguisher fits needs of medical MRI environments, leaves no water or chemical residue

MIAMI, Fla., July 18, 2006 - Badger Fire Protection announced today the launch of the B5V MR, a new non-magnetic fire extinguisher designed specifically for medical Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) environments. Badger is part of UTC Fire & Security, a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE:UTX).

Badger's B5V MR offers a clean, dry solution to non-magnetic fire fighting equipment. Once the fire is out, the extinguisher's clean carbon dioxide agent leaves no water or chemical residue.

Additionally, its non-magnetic properties are crucial to a hospital's MRI environment. The B5V MR has been independently tested in a 3 Telsa MR imaging system and found to pose no magnetic safety hazard. In addition to having an "MR Conditional" rating, the extinguisher's markings conform to new Food and Drug Administration recommendations for medical devices and other safety items used in MRI environments.

"Badger worked extensively with the medical community to develop a viable, economical solution to MRI-specific needs," said Eric Moore, Badger's vice president of sales. "We added to its value by creating a second, less costly ABC extinguisher for placement in areas outside, but in proximity to the MRI room. Using the B5V lessens the hospital's expense while providing protection against liquid, electrical and trash fires."

Badger Fire Protection has been providing the means to deal effectively with the threat of fire for more than 100 years.
