DVRs to be used at SAA facilities at airports throughout South Africa

MIAMI, Fla., Americas Fire & Security Expo, July 18, 2006 — VEREX Technology announced today that it was recently chosen to supply 39 NetVision digital video recorders (DVRs) to South African Airways (SAA) for a video surveillance program that will help deter crime and better protect SAA facilities at airports throughout South Africa. VEREX is part of UTC Fire & Security, a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE:UTX).

The new VEREX 16-way, 1.5TB NetVision DVRs have been installed at airports across South Africa to provide video image capture and transmission back to the airline’s central security control room at SAA headquarters in Johannesburg International Airport.

The SiteWatch remote maintenance technology, also provided by VEREX, allows for maximum uptime of the DVRs at near 100 percent and enables efficient planning of any maintenance required at outlying locations, some of which are several hours flying time from Johannesburg.

“The customer chose NetVision DVRs because they needed a proven and reliable solution with large storage capacity. NetVision DVRs have the added benefit of being highly flexible permitting remote configuration management and downloading of video clips using any PC from anywhere in the world,” said Jim Moran, digital video product manager at VEREX.
