PHILADELPHIA, Jan. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Buchanan Ingersoll announced today that Jack Thomas Tomarchio, a shareholder in the firm's Federal Government Relations Section, will resign to accept a position at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Tomarchio, a former Army prosecutor and a colonel in the Army Reserve, was appointed by President George W. Bush to serve as the principal deputy assistant secretary of homeland security for information analysis, which translates into deputy director of intelligence for the DHS. This is a new position created by the DHS as part of its reorganization.
Tomarchio will resign from Buchanan Ingersoll on January 9, 2006, and will be sworn in during a ceremony in Washington, D.C. In his new role he will help to build the intelligence capabilities of the DHS, and manage intelligence that could be useful to the country in defense against terrorism and other threats. He will also serve as primary liaison to a number of entities, including state and local governments, Congress, intelligence agencies such as the CIA and FBI, and major companies in the airline, energy, rail, pharmaceutical and health care industries.
Tomarchio notes this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. "This is an unexpected thrill, to be asked to take on a position like this," he said. "I am both honored and humbled that the president would select me for this position, and I will do my very best to execute my new duties at this critical time in our nation's history." Tomarchio will transition his clients to other Buchanan Ingersoll lawyers and government relations professionals.

Jack Thomas Tomarchio is a shareholder in the Philadelphia office of Buchanan Ingersoll and co-chair of the firm's National Security Practice Group. Tomarchio is a native of Newtown Square, PA, where he resides with his wife Gail F. Tomarchio, a psychologist, and their two children, Katherine (17) and Matthew (14).
