Alexandria, Va. (March 3. 2008) – The ASIS Foundation is pleased to announce Marcos Verastegui of the Venezuela-Caracas Chapter of ASIS International as the winner of the prestigious Timothy J. Walsh, APC I Award.
Verastegui will receive the award during the Asset Protection Course I (APC I) to be held March 10-13 in Denver.
The award, introduced in 2004, recognizes the efforts of individuals striving for excellence within the security industry. It is named in honor of Timothy J. Walsh, CPP, one of the early pioneers of ASIS International who served as the organization's president in 1964-1965. In addition to his service to ASIS at the committee, chapter and national levels, Walsh is the creator of the longest-running education program in ASIS history—the Assets Protection Course. He also co-authored the Protection of Assets Manual, the most comprehensive compilation of the security body of knowledge, which has become "the bible" for the security industry.
Verastegui began his career working as a household guard with a local security service in Caracas. He joined Proctor and Gamble in 2001 as security operator; his current position is senior security coordinator. In July, he will be transferred to Panama to help build the P&G security department for a newly established Latin American headquarters with 500 employees.
He currently resides in Caracas, Venezuela.
