AXCESS and GlobeRanger Partner for Active RFID Applications

Sept. 28, 2004
Axcess International Inc., and GlobeRanger announce a strategic partnership that will integrate AXCESS' ActiveTag RFID products with GlobeRanger's iMotion Edgeware platform.

Axcess International Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: AXSI), a leading provider of RFID and video surveillance systems for physical security and supply chain management, and GlobeRanger, a leading provider of RFID, mobility and sensor-based software solutions, today announced a strategic partnership that will integrate AXCESS' ActiveTag RFID products with GlobeRanger's iMotion Edgeware platform. The partnership will provide comprehensive capabilities to easily incorporate active, passive and sensor-based systems within one solution and manage the infrastructure for enterprise-wide, multi-site deployments.

AXCESS' active RFID tags and sensors can enable businesses to monitor, control and track personnel, assets, inventory and vehicles throughout the enterprise and deliver tag data over the network to GlobeRanger's iMotion Edgeware platform. Sensor data such as temperature, pressure and motion can now be incorporated with data from passive RFID systems to give users a complete operational view.

Supply chain and asset management solutions that blend passive and active RFID technologies can decrease labor cost, accelerate fleet vehicle turn- arounds, improve inventory control, and reduce theft and shrinkage. Industry analysts have projected the payback period for active RFID solutions are generally shorter than 18 months.

"Our partnership with AXCESS brings significant value by solving real customer concerns such as sensor monitoring, access control, independent beacon notification and theft deterrence," stated Larry Chandler, vice president of business development of GlobeRanger. "We are excited about enabling our customers and partners to leverage iMotion's graphical design and management capabilities for active RFID systems."

"The ability to support both passive and active tagging solutions is what the supply chain market requires," commented Ben Donohue, vice president of business development of AXCESS. "Providing solutions through GlobeRanger's platform will make it easier and quicker for supply chain customers to benefit from active RFID technology."

AXCESS' patented ActiveTag RFID system uses an embedded battery in the card sized, electronic "tag" for extra-long range identification. Tags are used for personnel, vehicles, assets, inventory, and sensors. Each tag transmits at UHF frequency band to palm-sized, network-based receivers from 18 inches up to 700 feet away depending upon the antenna used. Tags are automatically activated as they move through a doorway, gate or docking bay, or into a parking/staging area. Tags also autonomously beacon at pre-set intervals for real-time inventory counts and location. Embedded sensors, such as temperature, regularly report data or are programmed to alarm when outside the norm. The ActiveTag system is sold through the world's largest security system integrators.
