Former Divisional Police Commander West Eroni Antonio has been posted as the chief of police security at the Nadi International Airport.

Speaking yesterday from Nadi, SSP [Senior Supt] Antonio vowed to do his best to meet the challenges that come with the job, which includes supervision of police security at all of Fiji's airstrips. SSP Antonio's job description includes security responsibilities with the Customs and Immigration departments, the airlines and all agencies at the airport.

Police Commissioner Andrew Hughes said SSP Antonio would be in charge of the airport police all over Fiji. He will be based at the Nadi international airport.

SSP Antonio said with the increasing prevalence of transnational crime, his job would be a challenge as well as a demanding one.

"This is a first. It's different from community policing, tourism police and all others," he said.

SSP Antonio recently returned from New Zealand and Australia, where he observed the management of security at various airports.
