AXCESS International Joins Sun Partner Advantage Program

DALLAS - AXCESS International Inc., a leading provider of Active Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) systems has joined the Sun Partner Advantage Program and entered into an agreement to integrate AXCESS' active RFID hardware with the Sun Java System RFID Software. This will result in an integrated, affordable and open interoperable active RFID capability not currently available in the marketplace. AXCESS' addition to the Sun Partner Advantage Program will extend Sun's RFID solutions into the active RFID market - beyond passive RFID logistics-supply chain applications, and into other lucrative fields such as enterprise personnel, asset and vehicle tracking, high value asset management and active RFID based sensor monitoring.

"We are excited about integrating our products with technologies from an RFID solutions leader as dynamic and cutting-edge as Sun Microsystems," stated Allan Griebenow, President and CEO of AXCESS. "As a member of the Sun Partner Advantage Program, AXCESS will have the opportunity to provide Sun and other members of the Sun Partner Advantage Program with a full range of our active RFID application solutions in the future. As a result, Sun will be able to offer its customers a more diverse range of solutions that augment and complement their current passive RFID offerings."

"Extending Sun's RFID solutions with active technology partners is an essential element to our RFID strategy. We believe that the integration of AXCESS' ActiveTag technology with Sun's Java System RFID Software will accelerate customer RFID initiatives and adoption. We look forward to working closely with AXCESS in the months ahead," commented Sam Liu, director of RFID products at Sun Microsystems.

Sun and Axcess plan to demonstrate active RFID application solutions in the near future at the Sun RFID Test Center in Dallas, Texas. The Sun RFID Test Center includes the latest RFID equipment from Sun and its partners, and enables customers to test and evaluate equipment and solutions before investing in them.

AXCESS' patented ActiveTag RFID product uses small, battery powered tags (generically called "active" tags) that when automatically activated, transmit a wireless message typically 30 to 100 feet to hidden palm size receivers. The receivers are connected via an industry standard interface to existing security alarm equipment or networked on the existing corporate network. Optionally, the tag system can also be used to trigger security video recording and live remote video transmission. The tags are used for a variety of security applications including automatic personnel access to facilities, automatic vehicle access to parking areas and yards, corporate asset tracking and protection, as well as special purpose sensing. Automatic email alerting and paging is offered for rapid response to security incidents.
