CHICAGO -- The International Information Systems Security Certification Consortium (ISC)2, the non-profit international leader in its 15th year of educating, qualifying and certifying information security professionals worldwide, announced that 13 senior information security executives have been named charter members of the (ISC)2 Advisory Board of the Americas for Cyber Security.

The volunteer advisory board, which includes top information security leaders from companies such as Cisco, GM, Microsoft, eBay, Symantec and Deloitte, meets today in Chicago to provide insight and advice to the (ISC)2 executive management team on information security policies and trends, as well as to make recommendations regarding the professional education and certification of cyber security professionals in North and South America.

"This elite group of information security experts will bring valuable insight and knowledge to help (ISC)2 stay current with critical cyber security issues and trends," said James E. Duffy, Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) and (ISC)2 president and CEO. "Our goal is to provide a forum for the exchange of ideas and programs to identify the education and certification requirements to help (ISC)2 meet these challenges and the needs of its constituents throughout the Americas."

Randy Sanovic, CISSP and general director, information systems security for GM, will share the leadership of the advisory board as co-chair with Bruce Murphy, CISSP, CISM, global security services lead for Cisco Systems, Inc.

"By establishing the Advisory Board of the Americas, (ISC)2 has demonstrated a clear commitment to meeting the specialized knowledge and certification requirements for information security professionals in the region," said Sanovic. "Employers should understand that just as security software is only as effective as its last update, so information security professionals are only as effective as their understanding of the current best practices in the field."
