Retired burglars expose homeowners' security flaws; upgrade with Honeywell products

Honeywell is participating in the new reality television series "It Takes a Thief," co-produced by Discovery Communications and Lion Television. The show is on the Discovery Channel and currently airs every Wednesday at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT. "It Takes a Thief" shows viewers how vulnerable homes are to burglary and offers advice on burglary prevention.

Hosts Jon Douglas Rainey and Matt Johnston, two "reformed" burglars-turned-security experts, share their expertise to help homeowners protect themselves. In each episode, they walk the perimeter of the house, sharing what burglars look for in potential burglaries. Then, Jon breaks into the home while Matt and the homeowners watch on hidden cameras as the robbery unfolds. After watching their homes get burglarized, homeowners get a lesson from the experts on how to make their homes more secure.

Participants also get a full home-security makeover. Scarsdale Security Systems, an authorized Honeywell and First Alert Professional dealer located in Scarsdale, N.Y., is currently installing Honeywell security systems in several episodes.

"We're thrilled to be involved in this show and help educate the public on the importance of residential security," said Kenneth Weinstein, senior vice president of program marketing. "Honeywell is committed to providing innovative, high-quality home security products and we're proud to partner with Scarsdale Security, who supplied top-notch installations."

Scarsdale Security Systems Inc. is a major provider of monitored security services to homes and businesses across the country and is one of the industry's top 100 firms.
