An unnamed Arab country has tapped Identix Inc. to provide fingerprint technology to help keep track of visitors into and out of the country.

The order will provide the country with Identix's single fingerprint-capture devices and its BioEngine for storing and searching up to one million fingerprint templates. The system will be installed at entry/exit locations throughout the country.

"Not only can this country search existing databases prior to determining whether to admit an individual behind its borders, but should a visitor extend his or her stay past the approved exit period, the country now has the ability to biometrically identify this individual," said Identix president & CEO Dr. Joseph J. Atick.

The value of the agreement is estimated at $500,000, according to Identix.
