Supermarket uses video surveillance to prevent crime and improve the shopping experience through DirectIP

BRENTFORD, LONDON, 15 MAY 2013 - Albert Heijn Veldhoven, part of the Ahold group of international supermarkets, has rolled out DirectIP™ to reduce and prevent shrinkage while improving the overall retail experience. Like many retailers, Albert Heijn Veldhoven wanted to use video surveillance and recording to limit the impact of shoplifting, deliver on their promise to prevent crime and improve the shopping experience for customers by analysing pedestrian routes and footfall, key factors in the selection of DirectIP™ from IDIS.

With 227 franchise stores in the Netherlands, Albert Heijn is renowned for quality and affordable everyday groceries. For over ten years, Albert Heijn Veldhoven has trusted and experienced the quality and reliability of IDIS OEM systems with much of their original equipment still operating and requiring minimum maintenance. When the time came to upgrade to high-definition (HD) surveillance, Albert Heijn’s security team looked to IDIS Benelux and DirectIP™ solutions.

Albert Heijn’s store in Veldhoven now features sixteen DirectIP™ HD cameras with a 32-channel NVR featuring a 24-port PoE switch while utilising multi-spot monitors and a client PC with IDIS Center video management software. The security team is now benefiting from full HD quality that is crucial in the recognition and detection of suspicious behaviour to drive down shrinkage. The security manager and cafeteria is equipped with 42” monitors displaying 16 live camera views simultaneously and in real-time to provide a 360-degree view of the entire store.

Installed by Hollander Techniek in just two days, the implementation is the first DirectIP™ implementation in the Netherlands. Carlo Kuijer, CEO, IDIS Benelux said, “We have demonstrated right before the launch at IFSEC that DirectIP™ provides a simple and low cost migration from analogue systems that are extremely quick and easy to install and operate.

“The Albert Heijn Veldhoven security team has quickly adjusted with little training, while benefitting from HD picture quality and simultaneous live view and record across multiple cameras. This allows the team to support their objectives to prevent and detect crime while improving the overall shopping experience for customers. The initial reactions from the end-users and the installer are extremely positive and we look forward to continuing to work with them to further roll-out DirectIP™ across Benelux,” continued Kuijer.

DirectIP™ from IDIS launched at IFSEC International, NEC Birmingham, on 13th – 16th May 2013 in Hall 5 Stand D30. For more information, e-mail [email protected].
