Integration of low cost radar with CCTV cameras provides high-level perimeter protection in Alaska

ANCHORAGE, ALASKA, December 3, 2013 - SpotterRF today announced the integration of its Compact Surveillance Radar (CSR) by NMS Security in Alaskan oil field sites. NMS Security selected SpotterRF radar to provide rapidly deployable, and cost effective situational awareness to oil field crews working in wide open settings where crews and equipment are vulnerable.  The hyper-accurate SpotterRF radar allows workers to proactively respond to approaching threats, human or animal, detecting them well before they reach the fence line. The integration of NMS camera and monitoring technology with compact radar better protects humans, animals, and equipment.

"Seeing beyond the fence line during all types of weather is a top priority for our clients," states Ed Knoch, Director of Security Operations Centers for NMS Security. "Oil field theft is a big problem and the SpotterRF compact radar automatically detects threats out to 1000 meters, covering up to 150 acres, never gets tired and sees through fog, snow and rain.  Combining this with the NetworkedIO automatic slewing of cameras eases the workload of security personnel and gives workers peace of mind and reduces risk."

NMS Security has 35 years of experience in protecting the critical infrastructure in the energy sector. Providing state-of-the art monitoring surveillance, NMS Security is the largest and most experienced security provider to the oil industry in Alaska.

The integration of cost-effective SpotterRF ground surveillance radar greatly extends the coverage area as NMS Security solutions:

  • Protect facilities from sabotage of equipment and materials theft
  • Control site access
  • Determine the extent of threatening situations
  • Summon security personnel as needed
  • Exert force to prevent or delay malicious acts

"We are pleased to develop cost-effective radar applications that make a difference for people and planet," states Logan Harris, CEO for SpotterRF. "This NMS Security application demonstrates the power of integrating radar with existing cameras to monitor wide open spaces."

Until recently, radar surveillance was only available for large military force protection. Now, radar's wide area coverage is affordable for commercial environments like protecting oil fields, refineries, construction sites, LNG terminals, well sites and pipelines. Spotter radar units come in four sizes, weighs as little as 1.5 lbs. each, use less energy than a light bulb (just 8W each), and can communicate with Google Earth, Milestone, Vidsys and other PSIM software. Installation training takes less than 30 minutes in the field.

Integration with existing IR cameras, video analytics, or other Intrusion Detection System (IDS) greatly reduces costs and increases effectiveness for protecting critical infrastructure such oil & gas refineries, drill rigs, and petrochemical plants.
