NGSL Forum: Influencing Change for Nimble Global Risk Mitigation

A Collective Knowledge Security Leadership Forum sponsored by MITRE Corporation

The Next Generation Security Leader™ (NGSL) event is coming to MITRE Corporation campuses in Bedford, MA and McLean, VA on November 9-10, 2016. Vetted practitioners and proven practice solution leaders may attend either in person, or remotely by telephone. This event will feature panels, research, and work groups sessions led by security’s most influential proven practice leaders. 

Work group activities and benchmark polling will be designed by the Security Leadership Research Institute (SLRI), The Coles School of Business (Kennesaw State) and the Darla Moore International School of Business Faculty (University of South Carolina). Collective Knowledge resources for those participating include session decks, research (including SEC Security State of the Industry reports) and other publications. Certificates of completion and forum summary findings are included as well as an endorsement for up to nine hours of continuing education credits. 

Prospective in-person attendees are encouraged to register early to participate due to limited seating. Team participation discounts are also available for 3 or more.

8:15 - 9:00 AM – Welcome Next Generation Leaders Orientation Participant introductions, schedule and Chatham House rules. SEC Emeritus Faculty, Dean CorreiaFrancis D’Addario (formerly Wal-Mart Canada and Starbucks Coffee, respectively) with Joel Jacobs, Vice President and Chief Information Officer, MITRE. 

9:00 - 9:30 AM - Influencing Community, Corporate, and National Security Resilience Tom Mahlik, Corporate Director of Global Security Services introduces Mr. Alfred Grasso President and CEO, MITRE Corporation – Mr. Grasso will summarize his thoughts influencing our institutional national and global security conversations. 

9:30 - 11:00 AM - Next Generation Cyber Threats and Solution Considerations Subject Matter Expert Faculty Professor Herb Mattord (Associate Professor, Kennesaw State University) will facilitate a panel of practitioners from MITRE and Boeing for a State of the Industry Cyber brief for evolving risks, threats and vulnerabilities; as well as potential mitigation solutions. Next Generation Leaders will glean proven practices that will inform their developing protection-in-depth brand strategy. Timely research and trend collateral included. 

11:00 - 11:15 AM - Networking Break 

11:15 AM - 12:45 PM - Work Group Session I: Information and Physical Security - Convergence or Cross-functional collaboration? Off-network conversational work and survey sessions guided by SEC Emeritus Faculty, SLRI staff and our partners at the Darla Moore School of Business will feature a maturity self-assessment – Details to be briefed pre-event. FFRDC, MITRE and other SEC Community physical and information security subject matter experts will participate with faculty and staff leads to detail or map dependencies and interdependencies of successful people and asset protection convergence and/or collaboration. 

12:45 - 1:30 PM - Networking Lunch(es) Locations TBD 

1:30 - 2:45 PM – Assessing All-hazards Risk Mitigation Capacity for Organizations of the Future SEC SME Faculty (formerly Amazon and Starbucks) and Tom Mahlik will lead an executive panel with MD Anderson Cancer Center, MITRE and selected others on their efforts to discern and framework people, protocol and technology readiness, resources and value. Participants will be introduced to Internal Value Analysis (IVA) methodologies and cross-functional governance consideration 

2:45 - 3:00 PM – Networking Break 

3:00 - 4:30 PM – Work Group Session II: What are your Service Model Considerations for Forward-looking Protection-in-depth? Off-network conversational work and survey sessions guided by SEC Emeritus Faculty, SLRI staff and our partners at the Darla Moore School of Business will feature Security Organizational Change self-assessment – details to be briefed pre-event. Attendees will participate with faculty and staff leads in in operational excellence continuum considerations for measurable contribution and performance.

8:30 - 10:00 AM - Critical Incident Management – Top down or bottom up? Dean Correia and Francis D’Addario will lead Boeing Company, Delta Air Lines, Red Hat and selected others for Next generation discussion of critical incident epiphanies, misses, near misses and after-actions that enabled them to improve processes for brand protection resilience. 

10:15 – 10:30 AM - Networking Break 

10:30 AM - 12:00 PM - Insider Threat Revisited – Innovations, Proven Practices, and Brand Expectations Bob Hayes, Managing SEC Director (formerly Georgia Pacific and 3M), will facilitate an executive panel including American Airlines, Boeing Company, Capital One, Delta Air Lines, MD Anderson Cancer Center, and selected others. Next generation leaders will learn the importance of aligning Insider programming with organizational risk taxonomy priorities.
