ASSA ABLOY Americas University opens door to become door security expert

The impact of hands-on learning is critical in reinforcing the practical aspects of Door Security Solutions

Baltimore, MD -- March 9, 2017 — Knowing that door security solutions are a comprehensive effort extending beyond the product itself, ASSA ABLOY Americas University (AAAU) has spent nearly a decade educating its students in best practices for protecting the people and places most critical to its customers. AAAU offers both instructor-led and online courses that introduce or extend knowledge about the components of a door opening, and the opening as a whole. Open to all, AAAU provides installers, locksmiths, facility managers, architects and distributors with an avenue to improve their own knowledge and thus improve their facilities’ security.

“What we do at the university is expand the knowledge base for anyone who is interested in Door Security Solutions,” said Mark Brewer, Director of Education at AAAU. “But our industry is about more than the products installed within a doorway. Our solutions are about protecting school children in a classroom, helping the disabled gain access into a building, safeguarding families from catastrophic storms, building structures that are less taxing on the environment, and much more.”

By instilling the importance of that core mission in its learning programs, AAAU has cultivated success in inspiring its students to think more critically about the strategic efforts required to maintain high levels of security and safety, as well as building technical expertise in the systems themselves.

An average of 1,200 online courses are taken each month. Courses are tailored to specific audiences, such as facility management professionals, locksmiths, and distribution partners. In addition, instructor-led classes taught at one of four training centers throughout the U.S. offer hands-on installation experience for maximum impact.

“We have four major training centers in the U.S. equipped with full-size door labs where students can get hands-on training in a real-world environment,” Brewer said. “The impact of hands-on learning is critical in reinforcing the practical aspects of Door Security Solutions.”

The broad scope of the program means those who rely on door security solutions, are more experienced, trustworthy and innovative in the solutions they provide. In turn, that makes Door Security Solutions installed in facilities safer and more secure.

Brewer adds that AAAU is always interested in hearing what partners need in the way of training, as he is continuously working to expand and improve on the coursework.
